
Dr Cher McGillivray
Dr Cher McGillivray is an Assistant Professor at Bond University and a registered Clinical Psychologist and has completed a PhD, Masters of Clinical Psychology, Graduate Diploma of Psychology and Psychological Science, Master of Business Administration, and Bachelor of Business. She is an APS member and STAP supervisor for early year psychologists. Cher specialises in family and child therapy and trauma recovery. She has disseminated research in leading international psychology journals, presented at child and adolescent mental health and international trauma conferences. Cher is also a published author with research interests in complex trauma, childhood sexual abuse, moral injury, post-traumatic growth, self-compassion, mindfulness, and resilience. Her field of research is on the development of new interventions to assist trauma recovery, validation of childhood maltreatment assessment measures, and pathways of recovery from childhood maltreatment.
Her years of clinical practice have seen her work with thousands of children and adults who have experienced trauma. Her PhD develop a theory of moral injury for trauma recovery and has developed a Complex Trauma Parenting Beyond Trauma intervention for parents of children who have experienced sexual abuse. She has also developed a Moral Injury assessment measure to help the recovery of families affected by childhood maltreatment. She has also helped many students and clients learn how to live fulfilling lives able to grow to reach their full potential.
Dr Cher is also about to release her TEDX talk “Your Diamond Life: Embracing brokenness to rebuild and thrive”.
Through the launch of her self help book “My Diamond Life: Transforming Brokenness into Facets of Change Including Leading Psychology Tools to Brillianteer Yourself.”
Cher aims to support individuals to apply the brillianteering principles to become your authentic self. Brillianteering You provides knowledge to those seeking transformation and healing to craft changes in your life based on the world’s leading psychological science and philosophical evidence. Applying these brillianteering principles to rebuild on broken ruins will help renew once dimmed lives to become points of light that offers living hope to others in similar dark places.
Dr Cher has published a number of articles in academic journals and media and is interviewed widely on radio and newspapers about her research and theories.
She frequently lectures as an Assistant Professor at Bond University on the Gold Coast Australia and speaks frequently at events and conferences on trauma recovery, resilience, posttraumatic growth and living your valiant life.

Cher was awarded her Doctorate in Philosophy: Empirical Extension of the Theory of Moral Injury: Investigating the Role of Intrapersonal Moral Injury Cognitions through Paradigmatic Models in Non-offending Parents of Children who have Experienced Sexual Abuse. Award Date: 20 Apr 2022.
